To sight in a gun is to test fire at a given distance to ensure that the point of impact is at the point of aim, and making the appropriate adjustment(s) and retesting as needed.1

Remember that a true zero is specific to the combination of the distance, the shooter, the ammunition, and the gun. If any of these components change then the gun must be sighted in again with the new combination.
