anneal

Annealing is a shop process where heat is applied to metal to increase its ductility.

To anneal steel heat it to a cherry red and allow it to cool slowly.

Brass cannot be hardened with heat like other metals. The application of heat to brass will only soften it.

If you are looking for information about how to anneal brass cartridge cases see either the article listed below or the description on annealing cartridge cases in The ABC’s of Reloading.
