action, boxlock

A boxlock action is a gun design where the lock mechanism is concealed inside the receiver (traditionally in slots) and ‘self-cocking’ is achieved on opening.

From a stock makers perspective, a boxlock action is superior to a side lock action as less wood needs to be removed from the stock.
