trigger, single-action

A single action trigger is one that only releases the hammer or striker to initiate the firing operation of a gun. A gun with a single-action trigger must be cocked manually before actuating the trigger.1

It is possible for a gun to be both double-action and single-action.2

The single action trigger is the earliest type of trigger design.
