House Gun Conversion Charts

“A long time ago in a galaxy far, far away …,” regular stores used to sell guns. You could even buy them out of catalogs and have them mailed directly to your house. The gun companies of the day made the guns, but they were branded for sale in stores like Sears, Montgomery Wards, J. C. Penny, K-Mart, etc. Often they were the same gun as sold by the manufacturer, but made to a less expensive price point.

The gun companies of the day made the guns, but they were branded for sale in stores like Sears, Montgomery Wards, J. C. Penny, K-Mart, etc. Often they were the same guns as sold by the manufacturer, but made to a less expensive price point. This allowed the retailers to sell their brand of guns to their customers.

The following tables offer some information on matching house gun models to their original manufacturer and model.

Aldens Brand

I do not have any information about the store that sold these guns.

Belknap Brand

The Belknap Hardware and Manufacturing Company, headquartered in Louisville, Kentucky, was a retailer of hardware goods from 1840 to 1986.

It appears to be widely believed that Belknap imported some of the guns they sold from Belgium. I have no credibly sourced material that verifies this information.
